Last week's knitting

I seem to be incapable of sticking with one thing at the moment - I've moved about between projects for the last week. Some things got finished, and some things are still waiting to be finsihed (but then they're not the only things!)

First up came another dishcloth (my mom is suggesting this summer will be known as 'the one with the dishcloths). I finished a third, this had a garter stitch border, then an inner border of K2tog YO 3 times, and then a stocking stitch middle. I knit another one after that on the bias, but I've decided to knit another one of those and then join them to make an pot holder to replace the disgusting one we have in our kitchen.

I acquired a small amount of yarn mid-week and used it to knit two hats for premature babies. The hats came from a pattern published by Bliss, and each one takes less than an evening to knit. The pattern leaflet also has booties and cardigans, so I think I'll try and do some of each. I just need to get more suitable yarn now.

I also finished knitting Branching Out. All it needs now is blocking, and I'm going to use the fact my brother's away to use his room to do it. I stopped after 25 pattern repeats, I'll explain all when I post it as a FO.

Finally I cast on and knit half of the first side of the Saturday Market Bag last night. I was going to finally finish my shrug, but we decided to watch a film and I wanted to be able to pay more attention than I tend to do when I'm seaming. So far the Bag is going fine, but I'm not keen on 10mm needles - feels like knitting with board markers!

This week I am adding photographing my FOs and WIPs to my to-do list. Its been far too long and I'm just being lazy in not doing it!

More Washing Up

I finished another dishcloth last night. From the same website, but I did the feather and fan pattern instead. I really liked knitting this and now I'm thinking about doing a baby blanket using the same pattern. I can see it working with a variegated yarn in all the pretty baby colours.

Washing Up Ahoy

I spent last night knitting my first dishcloth. Its something I've been pondering for a little while; my mom has always said they're the strongest and best versions, and I thought it would be a good way to try out some stitch patterns. I found this site and decided to try some of the patterns. I started with the Stepped Ridge pattern and it turned out really nicely.

It used about half of the 100 gram ball of cotton I bought using 4mm needles, so I'm now going to look into buying a pack of cotton instead - looks like everyone's going to be getting dishcloths pretty soon!

Knitting related - I swear

I had a dream about knitting last night. I was making a pair of toe-up socks using the same pattern Gemma is using, but I was doing it all in stocking stitch instead of rib. The socks were navy blue on the toe and then white for the foot. I'd got them about half way up my foot and then I started knitting again and 5 minutes later it was about 6 inches too long for my foot (speedy knitting or what?)

It was my second knitting dream in a couple of weeks (the last one was the night before we went to see Deal or No Deal filmed and I dreamt Noel came and talked to me because I was knitting in the audience). Its a little strange, but weirder still was when I went back to sleep (we all love the weekend) and I started to dream about being taught how to crochet - it was very random and involved knight in chainmail!!

I decided against completing the project I was doing for Father's Day. It was too much to get it finished along with finishing finals so I've put it on the back burner for a short while. Since I finished reading the stuff about lace in the Interweave Knits I had in my SP package I have started on Branching Out. I'm really enjoying it, I think its quite a nice project to be working on in the heat.

Secret Pal Package

I got my first package from my secret pal!! The yarn is Caron Supersoft Tweed in Black and Purple (the shade is gorgeous - the photo doesn't do it justice), and its the current issue of Interweave Knits which has loads about lace in it, and the pattern for Icarus which I've heard so much about. The card is right up my street - it contains a random quote that really appealed to my random nature!

Mitred Fun

I've seen mitred squares in a few places lately and thought they sounded like fun. I had some scrap yarn hanging around so I decided to give them a try. 8 squares later and I have a small cushion cover.

The yarn was Sirdar's Bonus DK. Its very cheap acrylic, but its quite ok to work with. I don't remember what I used it for, but this was a way to use up a bit more of it. I decided to make half the squares with the yellow first, and the rest with the orange first so that I could get the standy out effect (I'm sure there's a proper name for it). I joined them together by crocheting them with crab stitch so that it was a bit more decorative.

I enjoyed this, and it has made me look around for some other cushion cover patterns.

Hiatus

I'm still knitting like a demon, but I'm also sitting my university finals. Whilst I'm doing that I'm not going to have time to update here. I'll be back in the early part of June.
