I was trying to be monogamous

It was my plan to concentrate solely on my Irish Hiking Scarf now that I'd finished the Harry Potter scarves so that I had a FO for me too. But as soon as Lisa saw Gemma's Cheat's Fingerless Gloves she smiled nicely at me and said "Those would be good for keeping my hands warm when I'm working."

So Lisa now has a pair of fingerless gloves. They were a quick and easy knit, but I did feel a bit bad about the whole cheat nature of them. Guess that means I'm adding some non-cheat fingerless gloves to my pending list!

Two fringe or not two fringe

The time has come, I can stand up and be counted - THE HARRY POTTER SCARVES ARE FINISHED!!!!

I sat this afternoon with a cheesy DVD playing, crochet hook in hand, and attached the fringes to both scarves. It wasn't anywhere near as tedious as I expected, I actually found it surprisingly relaxing and meditative. I delivered them to their new owners about an hour ago, and they still haven't taken them off yet!

I feel pretty acomplished right now. Whilst they weren't difficult to make, they were just lengthy and time consuming and its very nice to see them all done, and to see the smiling faces of their recipients!

The end is nigh!!

Tonight was a good night. I finished the knitting of the second Harry Potter scarf! So all that's left is to brace myself and attach the millions of fringe threads that are piled on my desk, and it'll all be over.

I haven't minded the knitting, and I feel bad that my housemates now feel guilty about how big a project it has turned into. If I hadn't been knitting these then I'd have been knitting something else, and if I'm completely honest there have been many times when I've been glad of the mindlessness of the knitting.

Think it's taught me to not repeat the same project straight away though.

There's an impending sense of doom hanging over me...

...it has just taken me an hour and a half to cut all of the pieces ready for fringing the Harry Potter scarves. It wasn't too difficult - I found that my Blu-Tac packet was the right size for wrapping it round (packet now has more scissor scrapes than pretty colours). The process was just pretty mind-numbing, so I can't wait to actually attach them.

I haven't quite finished the knitting part, I reckon there's one night's worth of work left in that. I've cut the fringe now though so that all the pieces are nice and straight. I have the feeling that by the time I've finished the knitting I'll be far enough into the ball of yarn that it will be starting to get slightly kinked.

Birthday Treats

My housemates gave me my birthday presents today. Unsurprisingly they raided Hobbycraft, so it was all round smiles :-D

They got me a card making kit with these really cute animals, and this Tigger knitting kit. It looks like a lot of fun - and its ages since I made a toy. Can't wait to get and start. Better finish the Harry Potter scarves first though.

Panta

I decided tonight to become even less monogamous and to start a third project. However, said project was the Panta that has been doing the rounds lately, and so my new project became a FO all tonight.

It was a nice quick knit, and I'm fairly pleased with the result. I used some unknown yarn from my stash, its a nice soft navy blue yarn... probably Aran weight. The only issue I have with it is it goes back too far on my head which will be the Aran wool instead of DK, but I like the warmth of the thicker wool. I think I'll probably knit another one, and this time adapt the pattern to do less repeats across the width and make it narrower that way.

Slowly slowly

I don't seem to be getting very far with either of my WIP at the moment. I always knew that this term (its my final taught term of my degree) was going to be hectic... I hadn't really contemplated quite how hectic. I have to admit I'm finding it pretty frustrating. Every knitting blog and community I read is full of people creating at the moment, and I'm pretty lucky if I manage to knit 5 rows. I know its a short term problem, but that doesn't really help all that much.
